37 gazetted officers assigned to various departments of the Assam state government experience increasing difficulties as the Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission’s investigation reveals significant irregularities against the accused officers in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission’s (APSC) cash-for-job scam.
The most recent development in the ongoing investigation into the “cash-for-job” scandal is that the judicial panel inquiry has directed DGP Guwahati to investigate the 37 officials’ involvement in the “cash-for-job” scheme at the APSC, with a possibility that all of the officers will be detained very soon.
The massive APSC cash-for-job fraud was the focus of a police investigation in Dibrugarh. During the investigation, the police took all of the answer sheets and turned them over to the Assam Special Judge’s Court.
The Assam government then established a one-person judicial investigation committee, led by Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sharma, to investigate into allegations of irregularities and malpractices during the 2013 and 2014 CCEs.
The investigative team headed by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma purportedly found fresh information in the 2014 APSC exam fraud case. Saharia, who held the position of PCE from 2016 to 2018, has 15 days to appear before the panel. In 2014, he was in charge of both the fundamental testing and the results announcement.
The former PCE was also in charge of the strong room. Saharia is alleged to have remained silent despite being fully aware of the scam.
Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, the current APSC chairman and a former main controller of examinations, had received an earlier notification. When the fraud happened during CCE 2014, Choudhury, who was named APSC chairman on August 18, was acting as the chief controller of exams.
