Assam and Tripura Best in School Education in NE

According to a Times of India story, the performance grading index (PGI), a special index for thorough study of the school education system, has Assam and Tripura classified at Level 4, the best among the northeastern states, and Arunachal Pradesh at the bottom of the grading system.

The PGI is based on two categories with five domains and 70 indicators.
The results are the average scores across five areas of educational attainment: Governance Process, Infrastructure & Facilities, Equity, and Learning Outcomes (GP). The all-India surveys are one of the sources used to compile the data for PGI 2020-21.

At Level 4, which groups states scoring between 801 and 850, Assam and Tripura are rated. According to the survey, both of the northeastern states are ranked on par with Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Ladakh.

With five other states, Mizoram is classified at Level 5 (751-800), whereas Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland are ranked at Level 6 (701-750), where a total of four states, including Uttarakhand, are categorised. Level 7 places Arunachal at the bottom of the rankings (score: 651 – 700).

No state in the nation was able to reach Level 1 status.
