    Assam’s ‘Yoga Utsav’ serves as a 50-day countdown to International Yoga Day

    On Monday, the 50-day countdown to International Day of Yoga was honoured with a ‘Yoga Utsav’ in Assam’s Sivasagar town, the seat of power of Ahom monarchs, with over 10,000 people from various Northeastern states in attendance, according to an official.

    Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of State for Ayush Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Gas Rameswar Teli, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland Health Ministers, as well as several MPs from the region and senior officials, attended the event.

    “As thousands of people from all the Northeastern states gathered to Sivasagar to practise yoga, it reinforces our sustained endeavour to put the famous heritage sites of Assam on the world tourism map through this event today,” Sonowal said.

    “The Utsav’s goal is to encourage people to try yoga, a magnificent gift from our thousands of years of civilization, in order to improve their quality of life.”
    Rakhigari (Haryana), Hastinapur (Uttar Pradesh), Sivasagar (Assam), Dholavira (Gujarat), and Adichanallur (Tamil Nadu) were chosen for the Yoga Utsav as part of the prime minister’s plan to develop five archaeological sites, namely Rakhigari (Haryana), Hastinapur (Uttar Pradesh), Sivasagar (Assam), Dholavira.
