In Silchar, Assam, a 43-year-old Muslim preacher was detained on suspicion of raping a little girl.
Police report that the incident happened on October 29. It was discovered the next day as a result of a police complaint made by the mother of the young girl.
The mother questioned her daughter, who was seven years old, after noticing her in a disturbed state, and the young girl then recounted the entire story.
“Like all parents in the Islamic society, we send our daughter for religious education. The rape victim’s mother stated, “That day we saw her in a distressed state and she told us that the Maulavi touched her improperly and also threatened her.
In the meantime, police have filed a complaint against the accused cleric under sections 447, 376 AB, and 354 of the Indian Penal Code as well as section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act.
The preacher fled after the complaint was filed, according to the police, but was later apprehended in Silchar’s Kanakpur neighbourhood.
