    Hockey World Cup: Trophy tour to have stoppages in Imphal & Guwahati

    Guwahati: The trophy tour for the forthcoming 2023 FIH men’s hockey World Cup began on Monday in Bhubaneswar and will next stop in Guwahati on Thursday. It will travel to Imphal on Wednesday.

    The trophy would only be transported to Guwahati and Imphal in the Northeast. The trophy will travel through Bengal, Manipur, Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka during the course of the 21-day tour. On December 25, it will then return to Odisha, where it will then tour all of the host state’s districts.

    The trophy will also visit all 17 of the Sundargarh district’s blocks, which is known as the birthplace of hockey in the state.

    The tour formally began on Monday when Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey received the trophy from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the state capital.

    The 2023 FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup will run from January 13 to January 29. India will begin their campaign against Spain on January 13 after being put in Pool D with Spain, England, and Wales.

    The 16 teams competing in the competition are Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, India, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand, England, France, Korea, Malaysia, Spain, South Africa, Japan, Chile, and Wales. The final will be held on January 29 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
