 has named IIT-Guwahati Director TG Sitharam as its new chairman){kind=link}
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has named IIT-Guwahati Director TG Sitharam as its new chairman, the Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday.
After Anil Sahasrabuddhe retired on September 1, 2021, at the age of 65, Jagadesh Kumar, the chairman of the University Grants Commission, assumed interim leadership of the technical education regulator. Sitharam will succeed Kumar. According to a formal notification from the MoE, “The Central Government hereby appoints Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, as Chairman, AICTE for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until attaining the age of 65, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
IIT-directorship Guwahati’s was transferred to Sitharam in July 2019.
After serving as the department’s chair professor for the energy and mechanical sciences for a while, he was a professor at the Indian Institute of Science’s (IISc) Bangalore department of civil engineering before that.
He spent over 27 years working at the IISc.
