GUWAHATI: On Thursday, a large shipment of suspected brown sugar was confiscated and a person was detained at Lumding in Assam, dealing a serious blow to the illegal drug trade.
According to reports, authorities discovered 31 soap packs containing 421.86 grammes of suspected brown sugar at Lumding Junction in the Hojai district of Assam and confiscated them.
According to police sources, the allegedly brown sugar was found on the Dibrugarh-Howrah express.
The amount of the seizure, according to officials, is about Rs 2.5 crore.
Rashidul Haque was one of the individuals the police detained during the drug bust.
According to authorities, the shipment of suspected brown sugar was transported from Dimapur in Nagaland to Chaparmukh in Assam’s Nagaon.
A case has been reported, and more inquiries are ongoing, the person said.
During a regular search along the Assam-Mizoram border on Tuesday night, police made another stunning find: a sizable haul of Yaba tablets.
According to reports, Yaba tablets worth more than Rs 160 crore were found among several passengers in a vehicle by the Assam Police.
Additionally, six people have been detained in connection with the massive drug haul the Assam police have seized.
Six people, including a woman, were taken into custody.
In the meanwhile, a case has been filed in the Assamese Cachar district in relation to the police’s seizure.
Meanwhile, Guwahati police arrested another suspect from the city’s Garchuk neighbourhood, marking another another victory in the fight against the illegal drug trade.
During an operation based on specific intelligence, police found 29 containers packed with a suspected narcotic substance from the accused. It was revealed that the suspect had been detained on narcotics smuggling allegations. The accused has been identified by the police as Afzal Ansari, a resident of Jharkhand.
