M Sangma Criticizes Assam CM on Church Scan

TMC leader Mukul Sangma questioned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday on his claim that the Special Branch SP of the Assam Police had issued the church scan letter without his knowledge.

In light of the letter demanding details on religious conversion and the number of churches built in Assam over the course of the previous year, Mukul questioned the state’s law and order condition where the CM was ignorant of such wrongdoings.

In light of the nationwide persecution of Christians, Sangma expressed concern that the most pressing issue at the moment is preventing political parties from violating the rights of individuals through legislation or policy decisions.

The Christian community has historically been the focus of these kind of crimes, so the action needs to end immediately, claims CM. In order to ensure that those involved for this kind of crime are brought to justice, CM Sangma has expressly urged the Chhattisgarh government to act on behalf of the district administration and state governments in those states.

Conrad stated that this is something that is really unnecessary and that such documents are very unfortunate in response to a question about the letter sent by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kamrup, who had requested information about churches established in the state in the previous year and instances of conversions in Assam.

The recent letter from an SP of the Assam Police Special Branch, which requests important information on religious conversion and the number of churches in the state, among other things, is also alleged to have received the heated opposition of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
